Triple P in North Carolina
In North Carolina, the ICTP project works with state, regional, and local Triple P coordinators, community Triple P leaders, statewide funders and policymakers, and other organizations providing implementation-focused support for Triple P in North Carolina.
The Division of Child & Family Well-Being (NC DHHS), the Division of Social Services (NC DSS), and The Duke Endowment support the scale-up of Triple P in North Carolina. Other state partners provide key leadership and coordination for Triple P in North Carolina, including the Division of Mental Health (NC DHHS), the Division of Juvenile Justice (DPS), and the North Carolina Partnership for Children (NCPFC).
The Triple P – Positive Parenting Program system of interventions is scaling up across the state. To ensure community-wide reach of evidence-based parenting and family support, these counties are organized into eight Triple P regions and one independent county (Cabarrus), each supported by a Lead Implementing Agency (LIA). LIAs are typically health departments, regional health systems, or school systems.
In North Carolina counties scaling-up Triple P, three outcomes are being monitored:
- Substantiated child abuse and neglect,
- Out-of-home foster care placements, and
- Emergency department visits indicate child injury.
What does it mean to ‘Scale-Up’ Triple P in North Carolina?
Full Triple P system scale-up typically involves an array of local family-serving agencies, organizations, and schools that are delivering various interventions from the Triple P system to achieve population-level benefits. Regional LIAs support these partnerships.
North Carolina’s Support Model
North Carolina Triple P is designed, in part, around an “Ideal Model of Support.” A cross-agency state Triple P leadership team and a statewide Triple P Learning Collaborative provide support to and receive feedback from communities implementing and scaling Triple P. Teams housed in LIAs provide support to regional provider organizations and practitioners who deliver Triple P services to local families and caregivers.
